    Singing group awarded £500 grant

Wilmslow group The Oakmere Singers Association has been awarded a £500 grant from Equilibrium’s Cheshire East Community Support Scheme.

Wilmslow group The Oakmere Singers Association has been awarded a £500 grant from Equilibrium’s Cheshire East Community Support Scheme.

The group, made up of retired Handforth residents, was set up to raise money for national and local charities through performances across nursing homes, retirement homes and summer fairs in the local area.

All proceeds raised through its concerts are donated to charities such as The Alzheimer’s Society and The Handforth Community War Memorial.

The grant will go towards purchasing new microphones, stands and speakers to enable the singers to perform to larger audiences, and as a result raise more money for their chosen charities.

Leo Shorrock, secretary of the Oakmere Singers Association said:

We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from Equilibrium, which will finally allow us to purchase some much-needed new equipment. All of our members absolutely love singing and it is really rewarding to see the positive impact it has when we go into care homes to perform.

We’re committed to raising money for local charities our members care about passionately and the new equipment we buy with this funding will help us to perform in bigger venues where a quality sound system and a mixing desk are needed.

In turn, this will help us raise more money for charity, so we are really excited to get out performing in 2017 and put our new equipment into action. We want to see members from the group going out to perform solo and in duets and this funding puts us in a great position to fulfil that ambition.

Equilibrium’s Cheshire East Community Support Scheme awards grants from £100 to £500 to local organisations and charities. For more information and to apply click here.
