It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
The time has been booked off, the presents have (hopefully) been bought and are (probably not) wrapped, and there are only a few days before copious amounts of mince pies, chocolates, Pixar films and irresponsibly glorious Tesco drink deals.
But before you pop on your out of office auto-reply and flee for the nearest Xmas party, the annual Equilibrium Santa Rally Competition is upon us! For those of you who don’t know, this is a fantastic opportunity to put your investment aptitude (and sheer guesswork) to good use in order to win a special prize.
This year we are giving away a £100 Red Letter Day voucher. Whether it’s a hot air balloon ride, F1 racing trip or much needed spa pamper session, this could be the perfect way to banish January blues and have a great day out.
All you have to do is guess what the Santa Rally effect will be this year. The Santa Rally is basically the impact Christmas has on the UK stock market. With millions of Brits paying for decorations, food and presents, this can cause some companies to experience a momentary surge in their share prices. The UK spends around £1.6 billion at Xmas time and the competition is all about guessing how big of an impact this will have on the FTSE 100.
Will there even be a Santa Rally in the FTSE this year? Just to stir the pot, December 2016 saw a Santa Rally bring the FTSE to a record high – surging 37.9 points to 7,106. This came after a muted December 2015 when the index fell below 6000. What will 2017’s December look like? Investment specialists are sceptical of the Santa Rally but out of the 31 years up to 2015, 26 of them experienced some form of Santa Rally. What do you think will happen this year? Well this is your chance to have your say and potentially win big!
To be in with a chance of winning a £100 Red Letter Day voucher, all you need to do is submit your guess for what you think the final FTSE 100 level will be as of the 31st December. You can have as many goes as you like up until the 15th December, with the latest guess before the deadline being considered your official entry. Winners will be announced on the 4th January.
The person with the closest guess will be deemed the winner. To enter, submit your guess via the form below. Good luck!
