Macclesfield Seals Disabled Swimming Club awarded £500 community support scheme grant

Equilibrium launched its Community Support Schemes a couple of years ago with the aim to give local charities and non-profit organisation the opportunity to apply for grants between £100-500 to help support the valuable work they do. The firm currently runs the scheme in two locations: Chester & District and Cheshire East.

The firm received a high number of applications in its first round of 2017 and Macclesfield Seals Disabled Swimming Club was chosen as its winner in the first quarter.

The club was established in 1957 because a need was identified for people with additional needs to have their own time in the swimming pool. The aim was to enable disabled people to swim and enjoy being in the water in a supportive environment where they felt safe, could progress and make friends. A group of volunteers help members to learn to swim and to have fun in the water.

The grant will be used to sponsor the volunteers who wish to make a regular commitment to the club to achieve an ASA qualification such as the Poolside Assistant, or the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. The donation will pay for three volunteers to achieve the qualification to enable the club to continue to operate in a safe environment.
