Equilibrium Financial Planners to cycle from Venice to Rome this September for charity!

In September, Jason Lowe and Andrew Hirst, Financial Planners at Equilibrium Asset Management, will embark on the ultimate cycling challenge, riding from Venice to Rome in a bid to raise money for two children’s hospices, Reuben’s Retreat and Claire House.

In September, Jason Lowe and Andrew Hirst, Financial Planners at Equilibrium Asset Management, will embark on the ultimate cycling challenge, riding from Venice to Rome in a bid to raise money for two children’s hospices, Reuben’s Retreat and Claire House.

Totalling 650-kilometers, the gruelling cycle will push Jason and Andy to their limits as they climb a total of 23,000 feet – that’s the same height as Mont Blanc with two Ben Nevises on top!

The two charities both provide a valuable service to seriously ill children and their families at what can often be the worst time in their lives. Jason and Andy are hoping to make a positive difference to these organisations and the work that they do with the money raised from their journey.

Claire House Children’s Hospice, based in the Wirral, helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life. By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support, they help families smile again when life couldn’t get any tougher.

Claire House has a team of trained professionals who are as passionate about what they do as they are talented at doing it. Their staff includes nurses, physiotherapists, play specialists, counsellors and four dedicated doctors who visit the hospice.

But Claire House is about far more than just care. It is a place for children to relax and enjoy themselves, whatever their age. They can have fun in the multi-sensory room, art room, hydrotherapy pool and jacuzzi. There is a separate wing complete with bar, sound system and Xbox for teenagers and young adults.

Whilst their children are having fun, mums and dads get the chance to enjoy some much-needed time off together or the opportunity to spend time with their other children.

The primary goal of Reuben’s Retreat, based in Glossop, is to create a sanctuary that will be a home-from-home for families coping with the serious illness of a child, providing respite breaks and the chance to build happy memories.

They already provide support and counselling for mums, dads and siblings of a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness and for those who have lost their precious child, brother or sister.

Their mission is to relieve the distress of families who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child suffering from a life limiting/threatening illness. They hope to provide ‘a place to Relax, Recharge, Remember, Rebuild, built on an army of love and compassion’.
